Zenna's CCL Surgery:

Last summer, Zenna has just caught her frisbee in mid-air as she landed and screamed a horrible dog scream.

I had rushed over to her to inspect what had happened and what I needed to do, yet I found nothing visibly wrong. She continued to throw her frisbee at me, insisting we continue in her favorite game of frisbee.

This past January, I took the pups in for an annual check out and had the vet analyze her leg, which she was bearing less weight on day by day. The outcome: a referral to a specialist who could further x-ray and determine if her CrCL (similar to a human ACL) needed reconstruction. Early February was the soonest we could see a specialist, and it was confirmed. With Zenna’s still young and active lifestyle, she would need a more invasive surgery, a surgery called “TPLO”.

What is TPLO? Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO) is a surgical treatment used to stabilize the stifle joint when the Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CrCL) has ruptured. The CrCL is similar to the ACL in a human knee, but unlike in humans, the CrCL rarely ruptures from sudden trauma in an otherwise healthy ligament.

The CrCL is much more crucial for dogs to have healthy VS humans, because of how much they rely on their hind legs for support, especially in working/active dogs.

Zenna undergoing surgery is absolutely a no-brianer. This little pooch has a LOT of life left to live! And, as someone who doesn’t always trust “pet insurance” companies, I have been contemplating ways to support Zenna in her surgery expenses.
